Latin American Regional Conference

We began the 5th Latin American Regional Conference at the House of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and of the Poor, otherwise known as ‘Quinta San José’. The Conference began with Mass at which the Superior General Jesús Etayo Arrondo presided, urging us all to transform our hearts to live consistently with the Gospel and to be able to respond to the needs of our age and of the mission of Jesus. Conference then began to transact its agenda attended by 35 Brothers and Co-workers. Brother Jesús Etayo open the 5th Assembly and in his opening address the attached on such issues as the process of reconfiguring the region, for which he urge everyone to work both on the life of the Brothers and the management of the centres, to be able to come up with some clear guidelines to present at the forthcoming Provincial regional chapters.

He recalled that we had to work in regions on the basis of the guidelines issued by the last General Chapter which we celebrated in Fatima in order to ensure unity throughout the whole Order.

Another issue that he touched on in his address was the life of the Brothers, the importance which we have to give to Vocations Promotion which was the task of each and every one of us "to work on vocations promotion as a priority in the Provinces for the life of the Order ". What project are we offering young people today? We can only work properly with a well-structured vocations promotion plan.

Initial formation was also important and it was essential to keep our formators properly formed themselves. Continuing formation, he said, if the fuel to drive us on our way, and it was the way to care for and nurture our spiritual.

He addressed charismatic management, saying that the focal point of our centres the practice of the charism of Saint John of God and they must work with Charismatic Quality, ensuring their transparent and efficient management.

Lastly, he spoke of international cooperation. He thanked the region for the way in which it had responded to the appeals made to it, particularly in the case of the Ebola epidemic.

Lastly, the urges all to live the Jubilee of Mercy. The meeting then moved on to hold a session to examine the reactions to our past work. Sister Ana Maria of the PASAR group invited us all to reflect on discernment and the capacity we have to bring about change: how far are we willing to allow ourselves to be moved by the Spirit? The PASAR group reached the crux of its work by explaining how our interior movement is and how we must try to experience God, for which she gave a practical explanation of Christian Anthropology. We cannot experience God and create a community, unless this is done by reaching out and meeting with our fellow brothers and sisters.
