Floods in Piura (Peru)

The Coastal el Niño phenomenon

 

The Superior General, Brother Jesús Etayo, hasvisited the St John of God Centres in Peru.

 

Brother Jesús Etayo O.H., theSuperior General of the Hospitaller Order of the Brothers of St John of God, accompaniedby Brother William Pintado, the Provincial Superior, and Brother Moisés MartínBoscá, Director of the Order’s Missions and International Cooperation Office inRome, went to visit the Saint John of God Retirement Home and the Saint John ofGod Hospital at Piura on 4 April to see for themselves the devastation inNorthern Peru caused by the  Coastal El Niño phenomenon.

 

This visit was intended to demonstrateto the patients in both Centres and their loved ones and the Brothers, the MercedarianSisters and Co-workers the close support of the whole Order in these dramatic circumstances.Facilities in both Centres have been damaged, but with no victims, thank God, butsome of our Co-workers and so many people living in the zone have suffered greatloss and damage to their homes and property.

 

They were able to see the solidaritywhich this tragedy has attracted, with the Religious Communities in the Centre andits Co-workers and Volunteers working all-out to support and bring hope to thepeople in the affected zones, redistributing the donations arriving in responseto emergency appeals made within and outside the Order.
