The General Canonical Visitation of the Province of Saint John the
Baptist took place in June 2025 under the guidance of Brothers Joaquim Erra and
Étienne Sene, General Councillors of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of
God. Over the course of a month, they visited the communities and facilities in
mainland France, Reunion Island, Madagascar and Mauritius.
The closing session, organised on 3 and 4 July at the Centre Lecourbe in
Paris, brought together more than 80 participants - Brothers, Sisters, Coworkers
and Volunteers - from all over the French Province. Several participants were
also connected via video conference from the Indian Ocean region.
Prior General Brother Pascal Ahodegnon recognised the richness of the
exchanges and the insights that could be gained during the visitation. There is
a fraternal, deeply rooted and creative hospitality in the Province, which
comes to fruition in numerous projects: sustainability and social
responsibility, cultural actions, care for the most vulnerable, involvement of
young volunteers.…
Brother Étienne underlined the strength of the bond between Brothers and
Coworkers in the territories visited, and Brother Joaquim highlighted the
vitality and capacity for innovation of the Saint John of God Foundation. They
all called for the strengthening of a culture of hospitality that is shared and
embodied on a daily basis.
Provincial Superior Brother Paul-Marie Taufana expressed his gratitude
to all those involved: "Hospitality brings us together, engages us and
moves us forward together.”
This visit marks an important step towards the 105th Provincial Chapter
scheduled for February 2026, heralded as a time of deep reflection on the
future of the Province's mission and commitments.
"May our ministries be places of compassion, and our mission a
source of joy and hope," concluded Brother Pascal.
