A virtual
meeting provided an opportunity to share the Magic Line SJD model, a charity
walk and a cross-cutting project capable of adapting to different contexts.
The Magic Line
SJD, the St John of God charity walk which for the past 14 years has brought
together thousands of people to walk for a fairer and more caring world,
continues to broaden its horizons. Originating in Barcelona and subsequently
spreading to other parts of Spain, its spirit is now beginning to spark
interest in other territories of the Hospitaller Order of St John of God.
Representatives
from various St John of God centres around the world took part in this virtual
meeting with a common aim: to gain an in-depth understanding of the essence of
the Magic Line SJD, to discover how this civic mobilisation is driven, and to
explore the possibilities of adapting it to their own contexts.
The session
was coordinated by Bro. Joaquim Erra and Ms Katia Morello, highlighting the
importance of continuing to build networks and share initiatives that
strengthen the Order’s shared mission. During the meeting, participants delved
deeper into the DNA of the Magic Line SJD: a cross-cutting project involving
professionals, clients, volunteers, businesses, organisations and the general
public, capable of raising awareness of vulnerable situations and fostering a
sense of community and commitment.
Solidarity,
hospitality and enthusiasm to transform the world
The project
was presented by Juanjo Ortega, director of the UTI Spain Province - Social
Welfare Programme, and Txell Esteve, director of Communications and Campaigns
for the Social Welfare Programme. Both spoke about the development of a project
which, year after year, has managed to involve more than 150,000 people and has
raised over 4 million euros over this period to support St John of God projects
aimed at supporting and caring for those most in need.
Beyond the
exchange of methodologies, the meeting served to strengthen ties between
centres in different countries and to share a common understanding of
solidarity: approachable, humble, inclusive and humane.
The interest
shown by the various centres confirms that the Magic Line SJD has a universal
appeal and that there is a place for everyone within it, confirming that it is
a charitable project that forges bonds, generates hope and promotes solidarity
and hospitality.
