Meeting for the DESkTOP project in Straubing

   

On Wednesday 23 on Thursday 24 November, the Centre for people withdisabilities in Straubing hosted the third meeting of the steering committeefor the DESkTOP project, financed by the European Union under the Erasmus+programme.

It was attended by 15 Co-workers from the Centres of the Order and the SistersHospitallers, and delegates from the Vodafone Foundation which is supportingthe building of a mobile app for people with disabilities. The app is called “MefacilytaDesktop”, and in the past few months it has been increasingly more widely usedwith a monthly average of 700 links. 58 Co-workers and over 100 users withdisabilities have already created an app user profile.

Work is also moving forward with the drafting of a teaching aid to helppeople with disabilities to use new technologies for their education (mobileapps accessible from tablets and smartphones).

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Superior of the Bavarian Province,Brother Benedikt Hau, hosted a convivial supper which was also attended by theDeputy Mayor of Straubing, the director of Centres for people with disabilitiesin the Province, Hans Emmert, and representatives of the local press. DrGalasso explained the purposes of project and the progress made already in the Centrestaking part in it.

At the end of the meeting, the members were able to visit the Straubingand Regensburg homes for people with disabilities. The next meeting will beheld in March next year in Barcelona.
