How can we
ensure that the mission of Saint John of God remains sustainable, relevant and
capable of responding to the needs of the most vulnerable in a changing world?
This was the
central question of the 2026 Saint John of God Funding Alliance Meeting, held
in Lisbon on 7–8 September under the theme “Sustaining Hospitality: Mission,
Impact and Partnerships for the Future.”
The meeting
brought together participants in person and online from all the Provinces of
the Order, creating a truly international space for dialogue, exchange and
collaboration. A special contribution was also offered by the Italian Bishops’
Conference (CEI), as a special guest and partner of the Alliance.
Across two
days, participants shared experiences from different regions and explored
mission sustainability, fundraising, project development, strategic
partnerships and impact. The Fundraising in 2036 consultation offered
further reflection on future opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
The meeting
was guided by a simple but powerful vision: sustainability is not only about
financial resources, but about strengthening local leadership, partnerships and
our capacity to respond to changing needs.
The meeting
concluded with a shared commitment to turn ideas into concrete initiatives,
stronger partnerships and a sustainable future for Hospitality.
