My name is Vincent. As my adult life unfolded I was studying medicine with the intention of establishing a loving home to help the poor and care for the sick. I cherished the dream of that personal effort until a Franciscan priest introduced me to the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God. The spirituality of the Order attracted me very strongly. On the basis of that spirituality I offered myself to God. My motivation for wanting to exercise the Order’s charism of Hospitality is that it enables me to make the presence of Jesus real and active in the lives of the poor and needy whenever I come into contact with them. Although I have not been in the Order very long I feel the physical and mental pain of our patents. I am responsible for making a Christian response to their pain in their suffering. My model for that is Jesus who not only healed us but also died on the Cross for us. In caring for the older Brothers and in my study of the documents of the Order and the story of the Founder, Saint John of God, I see clearly how he embraced suffering when it would help others. Those men who have gone before me in this Order inspire me to nurture my Hospitaller Vocation which will make me happy in caring for unhappy people.
