I am Martino and, at the time of writing this, I am a postulant who is discerning my vocation to the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God. I had graduated from the university and was working for a commercial company when I heard about the Order and lifestyle of brothers. So I approached the Brothers to learn something about the spirit of Saint John of God. After some days of learning and praying I felt myself to be touched by the mercy of God and invited to follow saint John of God. My hope is that I will be able to form myself, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to be able to join the Brothers in taking care of the patients. I know that I have only just put my feet onto a long path but the way ahead is clear. A postulant in the Order is expected to become familiar with the life of its founder, Saint John of God. Brothers and Co-workers find in his life all the encouragement we need to put ourselves at the service of others in the Hospitaller Vocation. We see in the life of Saint John of God that he felt that God was calling him but could not see what God wanted of him. He spent a lot of time travelling, working and praying before his vocation became clear to him. I have to be as patient as John of God was in the process of my discernment.
