365 TESTIMONIES OF HOSPITALITY

I have had and I continue to have many experiences of hospitality in my daily work with disabled people as well as in my relationship with colleagues. To me hospitality means first and foremost dedicating myself to others, giving them the necessary space and time. I once animated a day on inclusive prayer at the formation center of the Windberg monastery, together with two colleagues. During that day, a group of disabled people and workers of the Straubing center undertook a spiritual journey to experience together what it means to live in communion. At the beginning, every participant had the opportunity to describe through images and music his or her idea of a good day. The second stage consisted in feeling and experiencing the nature around us. We gathered stones, plants and wood with which we created a natural composition. In the afternoon we engaged in a  Bible reflection and acted out the story of the wedding at Cana. The parable was told with a language that could be easily understood by everyone, using various props and sets. Every participant had the chance to contribute to the performance using his or her own skills. Furthermore, in the course of the day we sang, read and prayed together.  At the end, every participant presented a gift to another participant in the form of a personalized postcard. The day was animated by the disabled guests and the workers of our center together. This allowed them to see each other from a different perspective, to experience a pleasant atmosphere and to give life to the day.  This for me was an intensely lived day of hospitality.
