The REVIVAL Project

Concluding meeting in Madrid

After two years of intensive work and fruitful transnational cooperation, the European REVIVAL project was concluded at a very well-attended and gratifying meeting in Madrid at the headquarters of the Instituto San José Foundation.

REVIVAL is one of the latest European projects to have been promoted by the Brussels-based “Hospitality Europe” office with the aim of fostering the inclusion of people with disabilities by enabling them to participate in artistic and cultural activities, in this instance, in the field of theatre and acting.

Developing a 'bridge' between the creative arts and the world of social care has been the main priority of the REVIVAL project (the acronym for 'Relaunching theatre Education Via Innovative Virtual Stages for Adult Learners'), which involved the  Order's and the Sisters Hospitallers' centres in eight European countries (Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Poland, Austria, Germany, in addition to the Hospitality Europe office in Brussels and a Greek professional theatre company) and received an European Union grant of EUR 230,000.

At the final meeting in Madrid, the partners conducted a review and a final assessment of the two main project deliverables: a digital course containing more than 300 videos and tutorials designed to facilitate the approach to the theatrical world and learning acting techniques by people with disabilities, and a protocol to guide care centres when planning accessible artistic and cultural activities in compliance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The digital course and protocol were also illustrated at a public event held on 25 April at the Instituto San José Foundation, which was also attended by very large numbers of guests being cared for in the centre.

These videos and other informative documents produced under the REVIVAL project are available for consultation at www.revivalproject.eu
