Appeal for peace

As a Catholic and humanitarian organisation that advocates hospitality, fraternity and solidarity, the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God feels challenged by the situation in Gaza.

The population is condemned to face death every day. Hospitals, schools, camps, and now food distribution centers are being indiscriminately attacked. Most essential humanitarian aid has become a death trap, and we are witnessing an absolute and systematic violation of human rights.

In the face of this inhumane situation, the Hospitaller Order of St John of God joins the call already made by many international humanitarian aid organizations to end the military siege of the civilian population and re-establish safe channels for humanitarian aid, coordinated and directed by the UN and other humanitarian agencies.

We cannot and must not allow indifference in the face of such a humanitarian atrocity. As Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, we will continue working, day after day, for the people who need help the most, and also to break the indifference and silence that prevail while the bombs, deaths, and neglect persist. Peace is the only possible way.
