Meeting General Commission for Health and Social Pastoral Care

Rome, April 9-10, 2026

The General Pastoral Commission advances reflection and planning in the current context.

In a global context marked by cultural, social and spiritual transformations, the General Commission for Health and Social Pastoral Care of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God met in Rome to continue the work of the current six-year term.

The meeting brought together representatives from the different regions of the Order: Susana Queiroga, Josep Antoni Boix, André Sené, Eldy de Castro, María Lee, Paul Hoang Hien, Tom Osorio, Iván Antonio Montoya and Daniel González.

During the sessions, strategic topics for the development of pastoral care were addressed, highlighting reflection on pastoral leadership in contexts of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity, which call for renewed forms of accompaniment and presence.

The results of the pastoral survey carried out in various regions were presented, aimed at evaluating the implementation of the Spiritual and Religious Care Model. This analysis made it possible to identify strengths, challenges and opportunities for improvement in its integration into institutional life.

Another key focus was the pastoral reading of the Charter of Identity, understood as a dynamic instrument in dialogue with contemporary challenges.

The meeting reaffirmed that pastoral care, in its broad sense, is the foundation of the Order’s identity and mission and, in its specific dimension, requires ongoing formation and a deep understanding of current contexts.

A particularly highlighted issue was the need to strengthen the formation of those who coordinate and animate pastoral processes.
