Renascer Unit Inaugurated in Funchal
The São João de Deus
Institute in Funchal has inaugurated the Renascer Unit, a new facility
dedicated to continuous mental health care, strengthening its capacity to
provide support and rehabilitation for people living with mental illness in the
Autonomous Region of Madeira. The project involved an investment of
approximately €4 million and provides 40 beds distributed across 20 rooms.
The inauguration
ceremony was attended by several representatives from the civil, religious, and
institutional sectors, including the Bishop of Funchal, Bishop Nuno Brás, who
blessed the new facilities, and the President of the Regional Government of Madeira,
Miguel Albuquerque, who highlighted the institution's role as a strategic
partner in the provision of healthcare services in the region.
In his address, the
Superior General of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, Fr. Pascal
Ahodegnon, emphasized that the Renascer Unit represents another important step
forward in the mission the Order has been carrying out in Madeira for more than
a century. He also reaffirmed the institution's commitment to person-centred
care, founded on the values of hospitality, quality of care, and responsiveness
to the emerging needs of the population.
The inauguration of
the Renascer Unit marks a significant milestone for mental health care in
Madeira and reflects the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God's ongoing
commitment to promoting the dignity, well-being, and inclusion of the most
vulnerable members of society.
