365 TESTIMONIES OF HOSPITALITY

My vocation to the Hospitaller world emerged when I was still in seminary: I wanted to become a priest, but everything changed as I was taking part in a Hospitaller camp: God attracted me through the sick people. And I allowed myself to be carried away by the world of hospitality where now I feel fulfilled, by building up my own and other people’s happiness. Now I continue as a priest but in a very different way because my consecration to God is through the priesthood, close to suffering people, and as a Brother Priest. Every minute of my life I try to ensure that it is a gift for needy people, giving to so many lives that are often felt to be adrift.

With young people I try to bear witness to the dedication that gives meaning to my life, living hospitality with them through small acts of charity, helping to make it possible for them to experience God through dialogue with the world of suffering. It is wonderful to realise that we have received more than we give. When working with the sick we constantly feel that radical dedication, expecting nothing in exchange, giving freely is always very rewarding, made visible through response and gestures of those receiving our care.

As a Brother of St John of God my happiness is always through the constant challenge to make a daily response to God’s call through the people around me, and especially those who are suffering most in our world and who are asking me to run the risk, and to devote myself unconditionally in the beautiful world of Hospitality!
