365 TESTIMONIES OF HOSPITALITY

Without even knowing it was hospitality, I think that I have been practising it since childhood, because I was always sharing something with my younger brothers and cousins. In August 1986,  I was brought to the St John of God Home Clinic and made very welcome by Br Santos Angulo and Sisters Ana Maria and Matilde. After I learning about the life of St John of God, I suddenly realized how Hospitality was practised;  my weakened spirit and body began to take comfort and hope to go on living.

In January 1990, I am sure that God had prepared my destiny to form part of the Hospitaller family, I began working in the secretariat and outpatients’, which is a privileged place in which to practise Hospitality alongside the religious and co-workers for a common purpose – to care for the patients, especially the most defenceless ones, in every way.

Many years have gone by since the nineties and there has been much new technological progress and globalization, but to my mind the value of Hospitality is being lost, even in social works, which makes me feel helpless because there is very little that I can do, now that everyone seems to be looking to their own personal good.  However, there are still marvellous people around who live and practise hospitality.  Now that my health is no longer good, I shall go on trying to practise hospitality from my position, even if only to offer a word  of consolation, in particular to those who are in need or suffering.
